Keep the comfort of your hydronic heating and move away from gas.

Hydronix can replace your gas boiler with an efficient air-to-water heat pump, using your existing radiators or underfloor heating where they are suitable. Every home is different. We check the system first, explain what needs to change and give you a clear quote before installation.

A typical installation costs $10,000–$15,000. Your final price depends on system size and any changes needed to radiators, controls, pipework or electrical supply.

Is your hydronic system ready for a heat-pump?

Many gas hydronic systems can be converted, but a heat pump needs to be matched to the house and the way it distributes heat. Underfloor heating is often a good fit. Existing radiators may also work, though some homes need larger panels to stay warm at the heat pump's most efficient water temperature.

We look at your home's heating needs, current boiler and radiators, pipework, controls and electrical supply. If a repair or a different upgrade makes more sense, we'll tell you.

What the conversion includes

Your installation is designed around your home. Depending on the existing system, the work can include:

  • Removing the old gas boiler and connecting an air-to-water heat pump.
  • Checking and adapting radiators or underfloor circuits where needed.
  • Updating pumps, controls and zoning to suit the new system.
  • Coordinating electrical work required for the heat pump.
  • Testing the system and showing you how to use it.

We work with Stiebel Eltron, HydroAir, Baxi and other manufacturers. We recommend equipment based on your home’s heating needs, available space and the performance you expect in winter.

Frequently asked questions

Often, yes. We check whether each room's radiator can produce enough heat with the new system. If a few are too small, we'll include those changes in the quote.

It will when the heat pump and the rest of the system are sized for the home's winter heating needs. We check that before recommending a model.

Standard hydronic radiators are designed for heating. Cooling needs suitable equipment and controls, so we'll discuss it separately if it matters to you.

There is no general requirement for existing Victorian owner-occupiers to replace gas space heating in 2027. The announced owner-occupier replacement rule concerns gas hot-water appliances that cannot be repaired.

A heat-pump can use substantially less energy than direct electric heating and may reduce your running costs compared with a gas boiler. The result depends on insulation, radiator temperatures, energy tariffs, heating hours and solar generation.

Victorian rebates and incentives

The Victorian Government is developing a VEU discount specifically for replacing gas hydronic space heating with a heat-pump system. As of September 2026, it is not yet available; implementation is proposed for the second quarter of 2027, subject to final rules. Current rebates for heat-pump hot water and reverse-cycle air conditioning do not automatically apply to a hydronic conversion. We’ll check the rules in force when we quote.
